The First Semester Gone by

It is hard to believe that one semester of this school year has already gone by. This has been a season of changes for the Kingdom Message School here in the Philippines. A new school board has been formed and it now consists of 60% Filipino and 40% foreign members. Both financial and administrative processes were greatly smoothed out, which very much helps the day-to-day operation and reporting. Due to the continual threats of the People’s Army in the area (the military wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines), we were obliged to hire a security guard to protect the children, school employees and premises. The teachers are very thankful for this effort and the children are absolutely thrilled to see a uniformed man with a gun guarding them. Since the guard started working with us, the discipline in school has improved also. We wonder why.:-)

We currently have 116 children in 4 grades – nursery, kindergarten, and grades 1 and 2. Nursery and kindergarten run two cycles each day (morning and afternoon), which gives us an opportunity to reach out to more children. Grades 1 and 2 have their classes all day long.

Out of 79 children that are included in our sponsorship program, we have been able to find sponsors for 56 of them. The sponsors are being added one by one and more and more children can get financial coverage. We are very grateful for this progress. There are still 23 children that are awaiting their sponsor. The remaining 37 children are able to pay a small tuition to help with the general expenses and cover their own school books and uniforms.

We want to thank you once again for your kindness towards the children in the Philippines. May the Lord bless you mightily as you seek Him in these difficult times.

A Few Words of Appreciation

From a 1st Grade Teacher:

My Dear Brethren,

Have a nice and wonderul day! May the Holy Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us always. I am so thankful that I am part of this school and I am so blessed for doing things for the better future of the children. I am imparting to them a lot of knowledge that they deserve to gain. I am so inspired to work for good because of the people who help to achieve the children’s goals and ambitions in life and that’s you and the ministry. May God give you more blessings to share.

Thank you,
Teacher Mimi

From a mother of a 6-year-old kindergartener:

Dear Madam/Sir,

A pleasant day to you! I never expected that such rare opportunity would come to my son, Nico Angelo, and I never thought that he could be the one to be so blessed as to be able to attend the school. It has been a great assurance for my son’s future since we were not able to send him to school properly before. In fact, we have hard times just to earn our everyday living. My husband and I are very grateful to the Almighty God who has granted us this blessing. Also, to the people who make it possible. I am very much grateful that now my child can go to school with this rare chance of assistance from kind-hearted people.

May the Heavenly Father bless our families with love and care.

Respecfully yours,
Nenet G.

[Note: Nico Angelo is still waiting for his sponsor. If you would like to take upon yourself the sponsorship of this precious child, please contact us at info_us@kingdomfoundationph.org.]

From a 1st grader:

Good day Brethren,

My dream in life is to finish my study. I want to become a good follower of God. I want to become a preacher, because the greatest profession in this world is to serve God. He is the one who gave us all the satisfaction in life. God never fails us. He never leaves us. He always guides us. He loves us so much.

God bless us all,
Orlan M.

Mission Trip – July 2012

We were once again able to make a trip to the Philippine Islands. This time our main focus was to attend to some of the business issues that have arisen in our activities in Mindanao Island. When the devil comes and begins to steal, kill and destroy, it just brings more of a confirmation that God is very much involved in what He has entrusted to His people.

Our team arrived in Butuan City and held one business meeting after another. They were able to make a number of changes with regards to the school establishment, both financially and spiritually. The school board now consists of 60% Filipino and 40% Foreign. Banking account was modified in order to bring the school up to the modern standards of safe money transfer and internet banking. Many things concerning the lives of our associates in the Philippines were changed and are being conformed into the image of God’s dear Son Jesus. We praise God for all He has done in this regard.

In addition to the Kingdom Message Ministry Foundation School, our team had two meetings at the Bible school (The Haggai School of Ministry) about an hour’s drive south of Butuan. They were able to deliver to them two brand new laptop computers (donated by a brother from Georgia) in which they were absolutely delighted. Brother Tomas was on hand to teach them how to use the Bible programs, the concordance and word dictionaries. They also had two meetings on Sunday, July 22, first at Brother Lito’s fellowship and later at the School where other elders attended along with the parents of many of the children from the school.

And how our sponsorship program is proceeding? We are very blessed to learn again how grateful the families of the sponsored children are. Words cannot express their gratitude. So far this year, we have a total of 117 students. 37 of them are able to pay a small fee which helps with the support of the school. 51 students have already found their sponsors and 29 are still waiting.

We thank God for what He has done for us so far this year and are looking forward to seeing the fruit of His work in the little ones that have been entrusted to us. Thank you for being part of this work.

Beginning of a New School Year

Greetings to you all once again from the Philippines! As you probably know, our new school year started June 4. As of now we have 130 students enrolled for the school year 2012-2013. Praise the Lord! There is still a number of children that would like to join us but unfortunately, we cannot accept any more students as our school premises are filled to their full capacity. Hopefully, we will have the ability when our own school is built. We pray it would be soon.

It is encouraging to see what God has done in our community. Many people are being blessed and saved and are able to see the light and life of God even through this initiative of our school. We count it a privilege to be able to follow the leading of the Lord and be involved in building His Kingdom.

Please pray with us so that the children that have been entrusted to us would learn not only the academics but primarily to know God, to walk with Him and to obey Him.

To those of you who have inquired about sponsoring another child this school year, we are currently working on updating our children’s database and will be in touch with you as soon as it is available.

Thank you all for your generosity in supporting the indigent of the Philippines.

Why Do I Sponsor a Child?

Written by Johanna (17)

I recently went through a small box filled with memorabilia from my trip to the Philippine Islands, remembering my first real mission trip. It was over a year ago, yet everything is as clear as a bell to me. I was very excited about my trip, but it didn’t take me long to figure out that mission work is not romantic at all! Of course, I expected conditions to be different than in America, but I found myself shocked by the extent of differences. I still have vivid pictures in my mind of little children taking care of small babies, and of young boys begging for food and money, and yet still of the cramped hut that a family of 4 lived in. The “house” was probably as big as my bedroom – maybe even smaller. The people and the poverty that they lived in broke my heart many times, yet in the midst of it God was there. The mission team I was with ministered the word of God to the many people who came and I sat amazed at how hungry they were for God. The Filipinos gave testimony after testimony of how blessed they were with this word and how it was changing their lives for the better. Their hunger and desire for more of God overwhelmed me with my own lack of commitment and zeal for the things of the kingdom. I pray that God would give me a soft heart that hungers after Him!

Our time in the Philippines was very busy with conference meetings, traveling to new locations and the meeting of new people. While there, we also visited Sister Merlinda’s school, Kingdom Message Ministry Foundation, in Butuan, which is one of my favorite memories. I looked out at the students with their sweet faces and brown eyes looking curiously at us and felt my heart melt. It was so beautiful and amazing to see what God was doing there. The Bible says “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) Having seven younger siblings, I know how impressionable children’s minds can be; this can be for good or for bad. If children see people in their lives doing or saying things that are not pleasing to the Lord, what do you think they begin to do? However, in the converse, if children have authorities in their lives that are seeking after the Lord and striving to overcome, they will follow their example. So many times now children are not given good examples, but at Kingdom Message School they are being given the opportunity to have a solid foundation. Not only do they learn the alphabet and numbers, they learn about the Bible and the Creator who made them and how He loves each one of them. These children will have been given a strong foundation in the Lord and will be as lights going out into the world to share this gospel with many others who are searching for truth. That is why I have chosen to sponsor a child at the school. If in this way I can help with the work and spreading of the gospel in the Philippines, I will.

God is in the process of putting together His body – and it’s not limited only to our local fellowships. His body is throughout the world, and we cannot neglect to help those in other places, whether it is though prayer, mission work, or financial aid.

My trip to the Philippines was a life-changing event and I will never be the same. It has opened my eyes to the world beyond my comfortable life here in America. I pray to God that we as people might rise up and begin to do the tasks that God has set before us. May God bless each one of you.

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” (Matthew 24:14)

Summer Classes

Hello again from the Philippines. The parents of the sponsored children thank God for your continued support and love. They extend their warmest greetings to their sponsors and to the ministry as well.

The summer classes are going well. They started April 2 and will continue till May 25 (8 weeks summer class curriculum). There are 23 children enrolled of which most of them will be Grade 1 students this coming June. The classes are divided into two. The Grade 1 to be children are attending their classes every morning from 8:00-11:00; their lessons focus on reading and writing. The kindergarten classes run from 1:00-3:30 PM. The lessons focus on readiness in reading and writing. Both morning and afternoon sessions dedicate 30 minutes every day to Bible stories and singing unto the Lord before the actual classes begin.

Thank you again for being part of this blessed endeavor to change lives of the next generation in the Philippines.

Concluding the First Sponsorship Year

A year of our child sponsorship program has gone by and we are pleased to announce that the Lord has provided sponsors for 43 children of the Kingdom Message Foundation school. We want to express our thanks to all of you who participated in it.

It is hard to put into words what your prayers and support are achieving in the lives of those who are receiving them. Thanks to our school, one hundred of the poorest of the poor children in Butuan City are given the opportunity to have their destination changed – both in this life and the eternal life to come.

What are our plans for the future?

First of all, the summer months (April & May) are dedicated to special classes ordered by The Department of Education in the Philippines. They will be mainly focused on the incoming grade 1 pupils. During these two months we are also going to be working on the school premises, doing the necessary maintenance in order to be again in full gear on June 1.

Even though we were able to extend the rent of our current school premises (we did so in June 2011 for three years), we are still in need of our own building. It will give us the ability to meet the government requirements for being granted permission to teach children beyond the 4th grade. As it is our desire to keep the current children (plus many more) throughout all their school years, the expansion of our current premises is inevitable. The land for this purpose has been purchased and at present, we are in the process of acquiring the access road right of way to this property.

In addition to these, we are also trusting the Lord will open doors for us to establish more schools and after school activities so that the gospel of the kingdom of God will be made available to even a larger number of children of the Philippines.

Thank you again for sharing your kindness with the indigent of the Philippines.

Provision for Indigent Families

The continual need to support the school for the indigent children and a desire to be able to help their families has led Merlinda Muhmenthaler-Berongoy to start a new business called Jireh Juice Manufacturer. This operation currently employs 11 workers and has done very well during its first weeks of existence. Among the employees, you can find several mothers of the indigent children enrolled in our school program and their older daughters.

In addition to the company selling its products directly, each employee receives a commission any time they manage to sell as little as one bottle of juice. We are very glad to know that more of the indigent families can now find provision for their daily needs.

Merlinda carries a great burden for the people of the Philippines and wants to see as many as possible brought to the feet of Jesus. She believes that showing her faith in action by helping the indigent community will help the poor to see the life of Jesus. And they do. The employees of Jireh Juice Manufacturer were so blessed by finding work that they gave their lives to the Lord and were baptized.

Thank you all for your continued support and prayers for the work of God in the Philippines.

Mission Trip – February/March 2012

Hello again from the Philippines! This time, we have a number of exciting news to share with you.

Quezon City 1

In February/March our ministry team traveled to the Philippine islands. Their journey took them three weeks. They started off in Manila, holding meetings in one of its suburb cities north of Manila called Quezon City. The meeting hall consisted of about 50% children (about 30 or 40 of them), mostly between 3-12 years old. On each of the three days of meetings Sister Nancy ministered to these little ones with Bible stories, exhortation and songs. As far as the adult congregation was concerned, there was a need for straight out foundational teachings on salvation and the basics of the Bible itself. When we asked how many Bibles were available in the room, only two or three Bibles were raised.

Cebu 2

Leaving Manila, our team flew to Cebu City. The meetings were very good from the standpoint of the richness of the Spirit of God. The worship and praise was also very sweet. The spoken word was coming forth with more power and on a deeper level. At the beginning of each meeting, Sister Nancy brought a teaching for the little children which was well received. There were many little ones in these meetings but not as many as in Quezon City.

Butuan City 1

The next stop was Butuan City. The first day of meetings started off with a bang. It was nearly a full room (Merlinda said she fed 185). Since there were so many children (at least 45-50), Sister Nancy had a children’s program before the messages of both the morning and the afternoon sessions. The second and concluding day of meetings was held on Sunday. The crowd was not quite as large (160). There was good liberty to preach and a good variety of interpreters available. One of the themes that was being preached both in Butuan City and at Cebu was the necessity of the people to have Bibles in their hands and be using them to study the Word of God. The children in Butuan had more familiarity with the Word than in the previous locations.

Bangonay Altar Call

On Monday morning, the team were off in Merlinda’s new van to Brother Edmar’s fellowship in Bangonay (one and ¼ hour drive south of here) for the remainder of ministry in this area. The major attendees were his Bible school students from his nearby school in Santiago. There was a response in one of the meetings in which nearly all of the students came forward as an act of dedicating their life to God’s calling. These are a wonderful group of students, mostly in their early 20s. They have tender hearts and a desire to learn.

Graduation 3

The next day was taken by the celebration closing the school year for the next two months of the Kingdom Message Foundation School. The graduation was celebrated for the kindergarten, a tradition in the Philippines. The certificate for these students had to be signed and handed out by an official from the Department of Education. After the white gowned and capped kindergartners were given their “diplomas,” the awards were given to all of the students. Every student was given a ribbon acknowledging their strengths in the study program. Every class also put on some performance: singing of hymns, reciting Bible verses, or acting out a story. About noon a fabulous meal was served to everyone. The ministry team had good fellowship with the families, getting acquainted with some who are being sponsored. The Department of Education Official, who has oversight of all private schools in the city, said that this school is regarded as a good one. We had opportunity to observe the teachers with their students and the principal as well. They are a most delightful and energetic staff of young exuberant women. The children respond very well to them.

One of the things that came upon us very strongly on this trip was a great burden for the children of the land of Philippines. We realized more than during any of our previous visits that God has placed a wonderful responsibility upon us to minister to these little ones the Word of God that has power not only to change and form their lives but also to bring about a change in their land. We are going to press towards establishing more schools, after-school activities, orphanages, and such. Please pray with us so that all of us together would be able to accomplish that which is in God’s heart for the Philippines.
