New School’s Facts

1. Mayor’s Permit: Another thing to thank God for! We got the 2014 Mayor’s permit for the school released. It is always a major undertaking to get all the necessary documentation collected and presented at the respective offices. We are very grateful for this one.

2. Currently, we are working on obtaining the 4th grade permit. Next school year will be the first year our school will teach 4th grade and so it has new requirements. We have to get a new classroom ready, science and T.L.E. laboratory equipped, and a number of paperwork to process. In spite of all this, we are very grateful that we can carry our 3rd grade students to yet another year. They are the first pupils our school had started with in 2010 and we are so happy to be able to provide more education for them.

3. Our school continues to be a great blessing to the indigent families in our locality. We are the only school in the area that offers free feeding to the children and that on a weekly basis. The parents are so very grateful for this provision to the little ones and send their BIG “thank you” to all of you who take part in this provision.

4. The 4th foundational day held at the end of January went very peaceably. The children were dressed in different colors in each grade which really highlighted their presentation. Though our school is young (only celebrating its 4th school year in comparison to others which have been established for 10, 25 or 100 years), we have run our race not for this world but for God’s kingdom. By His grace, we will keep running.

5. Another big box has arrived: Praise the Lord, the big box that was shipped from the United States in October last year has finally arrived! It had taken a very long time across the ocean making us wonder whether it got shipwrecked along the way. 🙂 However, it came in a very good condition and complete. All the content was distributed and continues to bless the recipients – Bibles, MP3 disks, books & educational materials, children’s pain relief medication, clothes, and personal gifts. Our sincere thanks to all of you who care so much for us on the other side of the world.

Children’s Flood Testimonies

We continue to praise our Lord Jesus Christ for His faithful care of us all. In times of peril and in flood, He remains the Shepherd of His flock. The following are a few of our children’s testimonies given of Jesus’ faithfulness during this past tropical storm in Butuan City.

By Christine Mae (Grade 3)

A blessed day to everyone! The love of the Lord is so unconditional, but time has come that we experienced some trials and difficulties to test how we really trust God. Like what had happened in our place. Not only flood but I’ve seen landslide, the river overflow, some of the animals died, drown due to the flood. So many people were affected and suffered. Inside our house the water came in but not too deep unlike in some other places that they needed to evacuate to the evacuation centers. I and my family thank God for that. I can’t forget of what had happen to us and I pray that that will never came back again. It is God who really answers our prayers.

By Elenith (Grade 2)

I am Elenith and my brother ‘s name is Edrian. Last January we experienced a flood due to tropical depression, particularly here in Ampayon. It was so scary, the water came inside our house, our clothing and some our things were all wet. Our neighbor tells us to evacuate but we don’t, my family and I just continued to pray that God will protect us and let the flood out. I know God sees and He is there to care for us. God is good. May the hand of God be upon us to protect us always. Love you in Christ.

By Kurt Rico (Grade 3)

God is so good always and kind. He is powerful. As the heavy rainfalls for 2 more weeks it cause to flood everywhere here in Butuan. Some of our neighbors leaves their houses and stay in the evacuation centers, they also ask us to leave and be with them, but my mother said that we will trust God and continue to pray that the rain would stop and do believe that He will answer our prayer, not just us but to all who calls for Him and who suffers the calamity. Finally, He is an answer prayer God. The heavy rain stopped and we are saved. Praise the Lord.

Tropical Depression Agaton

Dear Brethren, Sponsors and Friends,KMM School (10)

As many of you probably know by now, tropical depression Agaton struck the Philippines and did major damage in Butuan City on the Mindanao Island where our little school is located. There are 84 out of 86 barangay (districts) with heavy damage and loss of property. In many places, the floods have reached nearly to the roofs; houses are tied together with ropes and many people evacuated to the public and private schools, as most schools in Butuan have been used as evacuation centers. KMM School has been flooded on the first floor almost knee deep. A number of the school families have had to be evacuated out of their nearly destroyed homes to shelters, including our 3rd grade teacher Rio and her family. Our principal’s house has also suffered major damage. It seems that most of our school’s families have been affected by this flood, but we will know more details of the damage in the days to come. The greatest need at the moment is food and water supply, of which we are currently assisting. According to the media, it will take at least another week before the evacuees can leave the shelters. However, despite this heartbreaking news, the very best news of all is that there have been no casualties among our children and their families. We are very grateful to God for His intervention and trust Him for a complete recovery from the damage.

In about 30 days a team of six of us plan to make our semi-annual visit to Butuan where we plan to minister to the needs of the KMM School, the Bible School and some of the local fellowships that we have been supporting. We expect to encounter many dire needs when we arrive. We are therefore sending this appeal to the sponsors as well as to the general fellowships to consider this present situation and ask God if He would have a place for you to give to this need. If you feel to do so you can send any donations to Sonlight Ministries Missionary Fund (PO Box 1128, Mahomet, IL 61853) and designate the gift as Philippine Disaster Relief Fund. You can also donate online at https://kingdomfoundationph.org/donate/. When we as missionaries and School Directors visit there next month, we will hand carry these funds and distribute them as we see fit according to the needs that we will encounter. As usual, we will send a follow-up report when we return.

In the name of our Merciful God,

Mark Jantzi

Half-Way around the World

(Written by Johanna)

Previously, I wrote how Mrs. Atencio, a fifth grade teacher, encouraged her students to undertake a fundraising project for KMM School. Well, a few weeks ago they invited us back to their General Assembly where they presented us with a giant check for $160! They had also made a video presentation of the school activities of the past month, which included their Philippine fundraising project! We saw video footage of the students sewing the recycled grocery bags and explaining why they were doing it.

My Grandpa Herrig and I were able to thank them for their diligent work and efforts and let them know that every little thing they did (planning, sewing the recycled shopping bags, making pictures and letters to send to the children in the Philippines [see below], selling the bags, etc.) was an absolute huge blessing. We were also able to tell them that despite the recent typhoon that hit the Philippine Islands, the children and families of KMM School are safe, which they were very happy to hear. Overall, it was a great privilege to share with these children and see them get excited about helping other students half-way around the world.

1st Regular Weekly Feeding

2014 has arrived and we still have something to share with you from 2013! 🙂 Please see the following note from Sister Cherry, the school administrator:

“Please extend my gratitude to the sponsors who care so much for our children. Both the parents and the children are soooo thankful and very glad to know that feedings are now in a weekly schedule. You can see some pictures from the first weekly feeding below – the  happy faces of the parents who served the children and the children who enjoyed their wonderful meal. Another “thank you” to the sponsors – thank you…thank you so much.”

Feeding Programs

Our joy is beyond measure! It has been decided, thanks to those of you who have contributed to our feeding programs, that we will start our feedings on a weekly basis. Going from a monthly program to bi-weekly (on rare occasions) and finally to a weekly one represents a major step in our operation. We are planning to weigh the children before receiving the weekly feeding and monitor their health progress thereafter. It is hard to describe what your kindness means to us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Reading Assessment

The month of November is designated to the Reading Month celebration. All grade level children were observed by the principle and the administrator while the teachers had them read the sight words (grade students) and identify consonant and vowel sounds (kindergarten students). Some children read individually, others did group reading.

We are grateful for the parents’ assistance to their children. A number of the children have improved their reading skills as well as the overall work in the class. Children are now ready to read during the possible visit from the Department of Education personnel. This type of a visit is performed in order to monitor the overall quality of the school.

We send our heartfelt thanks to all of you for your love, support and prayers for us. May the Lord bless you all.

Children’s Sunday Church Fellowship

Every Sunday some of our school children willingly come to the school premises to have church fellowship with us. They are growing in the Lord becoming quite little Christian soldiers for Jesus. They love to listen to the Bible Stories and sing wholeheartedly unto God. Everyone wants to lead a prayer, a song, or recite a memory verse. Praise the Lord.

US Children Raising Money for KMMS

Class 1Written by Johanna

Recently, Mrs. Atencio, a fifth-grade teacher, invited my Grandpa, George Herrig, my brother and I to speak to her class about the Kingdom Message Ministry School. Her class is learning about kids helping other kids this semester and Mrs. Atencio thought this a perfect opportunity for her kids to put into practice what they were learning.

For an art project, the students are making shopping bags out of recycled materials, which they will sell at school functions and give the proceeds raised to KMM School!

Having been to the Philippine school (in my Grandpa’s case, several times), we were invited to give a presentation to the students about the school and the Philippines. The kids loved seeing the photo slideshow we created and listened attentively- some even took notes!

We gave our presentation to two groups of twenty-five students and both times the students asked lots of questions, ranging from the school to the Philippines itself. It was exciting to share with these students and see their excitement. “I hope we’ll raise $6,000!” one boy declared. Well, I don’t know that it will be that much, but whatever they give, it will be a great blessing! 🙂

World Teachers’ Day

“A Call for Teachers!” was the slogan of World Teachers’ Day 2013 (October 4). Teachers are the most powerful force for quality education and quality education offers hope and promise of a better future. The Teachers’ Day is a day to say a special “thank you” to the teachers for all their efforts and sacrifices in molding and developing young minds and hearts into mature and responsible adults.

Kingdom Message Ministry School has never celebrated this annual event. And we probably wouldn’t have done so this year either, if it were not for the PTCA (Parents, Teachers and Community Association) officers. To the absolute surprise of all the teachers and the school staff, they arranged the whole celebration, organized every detail of it and the only thing that was required of the teachers was to sit down, watch and listen to what the parents as well as the students had to share with them – poems, songs, and speeches. The children also presented cards, “thank you” letters, gifts, and flowers to their beloved teachers as a sign of their gratitude. It was a very moving experience.

We are very grateful for the parents’ willingness, cooperation and support of the school.

From all of us here in the Philippines, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the brethren and sponsors who are there for us. Thank you for loving the Lord and lending your hand to the poor and indigent children in the Philippines. Thank you so much.
