Another Reason to Praise the Lord!

The month of January was busy with a number of events. Two of these special events were the tribal feedings. Feeding programs have become an important part of our operation. Anytime we can gather enough finances, a large amount of wholesome food is purchased and delivered to the remote tribal villages. We wish there was more we could do for these precious people, but unfortunately we do not currently have enough capacity to provide them with better education and jobs so that they would be able to fully provide for themselves. Another thing we dream of for the future… We are not sad, though. These people are in God’s hands and we are determined to do the part that He has assigned for us to do at this moment.

As our last tribal feeding was in August 2011, you can imagine our January’s excitement to be able to share meals, clothing, and toys with two tribes in one month! However, we do not come to them with natural means only. We use the natural to be able to bring to them the spiritual food. Each of the feedings were accompanied by a gathering unto the Lord. We were given the opportunity to share the gospel of the Kingdom with them, encouraging them not only to give their lives to the Lord, but also to build a close personal relationship with Him. Our hearts were filled with gladness as we drove back home. See the joy on the faces of our friends for yourself…

2nd Foundation Day and Feeding

January 27 marked the 2nd Foundation Day of our school for the indigent children. Every school in the Philippines assigns one day each year for a special event for the children and their families. In our school, it is January 27. The children put up a small performance and there is also a meal provided for all those present.

This year the children and their families once again gathered together for a sweet fellowship. The children had their program well prepared – they recited Bible verses, poems, and performed an interpretative dance. The littlest ones showed us a fisherman’s boat – they fished for both fish and people. Daniel and the lions were not missing either.

The day continued with sharing a fellowship over a nutritious meal that none of the families can afford on regular basis. All in all, the Lord has again provided for making this special event possible. We are very greatful to Him for all His care for us.

Thank You, Sponsors!

We would like to express our gratitude to all the sponsors who have been faithfully praying for the children and teachers of our school and sharing their love and earthly possessions with the indigent of the Philippines. It is difficult to put into words what your kind support is accomplishing in the hearts and lives of the children and their families. We just want to say a big THANK YOU to you all.

Have you ever wondered how our days are structured? Well, here is our Monday thru Friday kindergarten daily plan:

8:10 – 8:25 – meeting time 1 (arrival/checking of attendance; opening prayer time)
8:25 – 9:25 – work period 1 (small group activities)
9:25 – 9:40 – meeting time 2 (discuss work period/activities)
9:40 – 9:55  – supervised recess (snack time)
9:55 – 10:15 – Bible story time
10:15 – 11:00 – work period 2 (rhymes/poems/songs)
11:00 – 11:20 – indoor/outdoor activities
11:20 – 11:30 – meeting time 3/dismissal routine

After the morning session is over, more children come to the afternoon session, in which the same program is followed. This enables us to teach twice as many children. [The first grade children stay for both morning and afternoon sessions as that is what the Filipino law requires. We will share their schedule with you next time.]

While the children are learning, some of the mothers leave for home, but some of them wait for their offsprings by the school. Every Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 and from 1:00 to 3:00 there is a Bible study held with the indigent mothers.

Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00 we gather for a fellowship meeting organized for the mothers of the indigent children, their children, and our church members. We encourage the mothers to participate in this meeting teaching them that as God is faithful to us, we should, in return, be also faithful to Him and give Him praise in the congregation of the saints. We praise God for they all attend faithfully.

The Lord is truly doing marvelous work in the Philippines both in the school and in the ministry. Thank you again for being part of it.

November Nutrition Program

Praise and thanks be to God! The feeding activities in November, which again included both the children and their parents, were yet another proof of God’s goodness and provision. There were about 250 people attending. They were all blessed both in the natural and in the spiritual as you can see in the following pictures. Thank you for helping us to make this possible.

October in the School

October has been a month of great blessings. Three packages from our partners in the United States arrived (after being 3 months on the road). What a joy it was to open them up! They contained clothes, toys, and Christian literature for our school children and their families. Just look into their faces and see their gratitude for yourself!

Also, we were able to hold another nutrition feeding program. We had a lot of fun distributing meals and drinks to the little ones as well as their care givers. Thank you, dear sponsors, for making these events possible.

Second Nutrition Program This Year

The Kingdom Message Ministry Foundation School is celebrating its second Nutrition Program this school year. The purpose of these programs is to provide the children and their families with highly nutritious food and bring education on life related issues. This month’s theme was BREASTFEEDING and the Filipino Government supported it.

Parents as well as the schoolteachers gave this program their full support. The children of different levels heartily gave their presentation. In addition, there was a cooking contest for the parents. Some prepared vegetable salad, while others worked on fruit salad. Everybody went home strengthened not only by the food they partook of but mainly by the strength of the One Who made all this possible – the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our thanks to all of you who have been supporting us by your prayers and financial contributions. We are very grateful to you for being part of this labor of love.

Child Sponsorship Program Launched

The weekend of July 4, during our annual conference in Illinois, we officially launched the child sponsorship program! Sister Merlinda came from the Philippines with a big “Thank You” to all those who have supported the school for indigent children this past year. The details of the new sponsorship program were laid out and those sponsors who made a commitment received pictures of their children with family background information. We are grateful to the Lord for everyone who decided to share their kindness with these underprivileged children.

If you would like to join us in this endeavor, please visit our Sponsor a Child page.

The First Self-Sufficiency Project Launched

In the month of May, 2011 we started our first self-sufficiency project in the Philippines.

John Sarmen from Liannga, Mindanao submitted a business plan to Sonlight Ministries to operate a Fried Chicken stand in the City of Manila. The business will provide income to John as well as one additional job to a brother in the Lord in Manila’s church. A relative of John already operates one of these chicken stands and will provide the expertise in starting and operating this new venture.

Sonlight Ministries made a loan of $900 to Brother John on May 23rd with a plan to repay the loan within 12 months. When the loan is repaid the funds will then be used to start an additional self-sufficiency project.

We are currently looking into starting more self-sufficiency projects once we receive additional funds for these endeavors. We believe that funds for these projects have great potential. First, it will enable the local people to start and operate a business. The profits will supply monthly support for those who own the business as well as for those who will then be hired to run the business. There is very high unemployment in the Philippines and these self-sufficiency programs will provide opportunities with jobs and financial support for the families involved. Second, we have been teaching the brethren in the church the principles of tithes and offerings. Giving first fruits from these self-sufficiency projects back to God through the local churches will in turn bless and support the work of God in the Philippines.

Starting the New School Year

The school has progressed marvelously through the first year of its existence. Forty students in three classes have not only learned academics but the Word of God. As the school year ended in March, plans were to expand upon reopening in June. We praise God that He made this possible. The first grade has been added to the current kindergarten and afternoon classes for additional poverty-stricken children have been developed. The school is currently providing education to 100 students. This has broaden our outreach into this neediest of communities.
